Don’t Get Caught in the Quicksand: How the Great Apostasy Wants to Suck You In

Quicksand is known for how treacherous it can be. To look at it, you would think it’s normal ground. But as soon as you step on it, you can end up fighting for your life to escape it as it tries sink you. That’s just how false religion can be in these last days. This is especially true for any false religion and its followers posing as Christianity and Christians. It is these particular falsehoods that will serve as the basis for the great falling away, or great apostasy, prophesied in 2 Thessalonians 2.

Do a New Testament search of the word “false“, and you will find dozens of warnings from Christ and his disciples about false prophets, false witnesses, false Christs, false apostles, false brethren, false accusers, and false teachers. Paul even implied in 2 Thessalonians 2:2 that letters were being forged in his name and names of other apostles or church leaders. Although there have been many eras where apostasy seemed to overtake God’s church, such as parts of the Middle Ages before the Reformation, no era thus far has been so insidious in its opposition to Christianity and efforts to counterfeit Christianity as this modern/postmodern era.

Back in May, Billy Crone of Sunrise Church in Las Vegas released the hour-and-a-half video below exploring some of the apostasy that has infiltrated the church in our times. It highlights how the apostasy progressed and some of the false doctrines it has promoted. It’s an eye-opening video. However, it omits delving into the origins of the present apostasy that has spread and grown from the 1980s until today. The apostasy we are now witnessing actually got its spark in the late 19th century with Charles Darwin and Karl Marx along with “churchmen” like Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort who sought to replace reliable Bible versions with their counterfeit versions marketed as easier-to-understand. Replacing God’s genuine word with counterfeit Bibles subtly infused with Marxism, Darwinism, and other false -isms eventually led to what we are seeing now.
