Doctor Advises Christian Vlogger to Kill Her Unborn Baby. She Rejects the Advice.

Popular Australian YouTube fitness vlogger, Sarah Stevenson, recently had an unpleasant experience with her doctor when she learned she was pregnant for the second time. A prenatal test was done and her doctor told her she should probably get an abortion because the test results came back showing her baby would “likely” have a disability.

In a follow-up appointment, a second prenatal test was done. The doctor once again suggested that she abort “for your own wellbeing, and for the wellbeing of your child.” The advice raised doubts in Sarah’s mind as she began to question if having the baby would be worth it. But the idea of killing her baby never sat well with her or her husband, so she turned to God to get through the doubts.

According to Sarah, she increased her Bible reading, prayed more (including with Christian friends), and filled their house with worship music. She was especially led to scriptures where God told individuals that he knew them before they were in the womb or before they were born. The doubts then vanished from her mind and she was at peace with welcoming her baby no matter what. The baby will be due in early 2022.

Sarah’s actions and final decision reflect how the Holy Spirit can guide us in a difficult time. Doubts can arise, but when we have a desire to please the Lord, his voice will become louder than the voices of the world and its naysayers. The doctor spoke death over her baby, but God said, “Not so!” It’s a good thing she listened to God instead of man for at least four reasons: (1) Murdering a human being is contrary to the Lord’s will, regardless of the reason, at any stage of life; (2) All babies are a gift and a blessing from the Lord (Psalm 127:3); (3) God can use disabled persons for his glory (Exodus 4:11); (4) Studies have shown that commonly-used prenatal tests have high failure rates and have misled women into killing healthy babies. Now that the Stevensons have honored God, there’s no doubt he will show himself faithful and grant them immense blessings in the present and in their future.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5
