The Bible warns us several times that witchcraft is nothing to take lightly, nor is it something to play with. At the end of August, five members of a family in Fiji who was devoted to witchcraft found that out the hard way. They ended up dead allegedly at the hands of a family friend who is a witch doctor.
On September 17, 2019 in Fiji, a 62-year-old witch doctor who had the reputation of being a “healer” was charged for the murders of the five who were his neighbors when he lived in Fiji. The witch doctor actually lives in Christchurch, New Zealand now, but was in his native Fiji for a visit when he visited the five family members, including Nirmal Kumar, 63, his wife Usha Devi, 54, their daughter Nileshni Kajal, 34, and Kajal’s two children, Sana, 11, and Samara, 8. Mr. Kumar’s daughter, Nileshni, was estranged from her husband who is the father of the murdered girls.
Their bodies were found on a mountain where a one-year-old girl was the only one alive in the midst of her deceased family who were allegedly poisoned by the so-called “healer” named Kamal. She was another granddaughter of the deceased couple. She was unharmed, but miraculously survived 36 hours near her murdered grandfather, grandmother, aunt, and two cousins. The estranged husband of Mr. Kumar’s deceased daughter has stated that his ex-wife and in-laws were heavily into the occult. Kamal, the witch doctor who allegedly poisoned them, was one of several witch doctors they associated with. The young father said he tried to shield his two daughters from their grandparents’ obsession with the occult, but his estranged wife and daughters got sucked in despite his efforts.
With a reputation of being a healer who used herbal medicines, prayers, and occultic rituals to heal people, Kamal treated Kumar’s wife, Usha Devi, several times when she sought relief for her abdominal pains. Kamal is held in high esteem within the Fiji community where the Kumars lived and many are in disbelief that he would be capable of murder. Kamal’s defense attorney believes the evidence against him is merely circumstantial. When Kamal made his first court appearance September 17, the judge ordered him to remain in jail after considering his strong influence on the community and the possibility of him fleeing Fiji. His next court date will be September 25.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. Revelation 21
