Denomination excommunicates congregation for promoting homosexuality

The denomination known as the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), made up of 875 churches in the U.S. and 300,000 members, has one less congregation on their roster as of Friday, June 28. Last year the denomination handed down a disciplinary action for the First Covenant Church (FCC) in Minneapolis, urging them to replace their pastor, Dan Collison, over his support for all things homosexual, including “gay marriage” (which really isn’t marriage at all). The whole church, including Collison, defied the denomination’s decision, so the denomination’s board voted to excommunicate them all on Friday.

The denomination was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1885, and is rather liberal in its leanings when it comes to “immigration, mass incarceration, [and] justice,” but homosexuality is an area where they draw the line. “The ECC’s position on human sexuality states that heterosexual marriage, faithfulness within marriage and abstinence outside of marriage constitute the Christian standard.” In that regard, they remain true to God’s word. Since Collison and the FCC promote the idea that the sexuality of sodomites and lesbians are equal to heterosexuals, the ECC saw no choice but to take drastic action.

Collison boasts that about 20 homosexuals attend FCC with a little less than half of them who are actual members. They have yet to officiate a “gay marriage” ceremony at their church. In true liberal elitist fashion, Collison has expressed his disdain for the ECC’s decision by claiming they lack “love.” Of course, liberals love to redefine words to mean what they don’t really mean. To him “love” means accepting people’s sins, exposing how rebellious he is against God’s word. “I’m deeply saddened this ecclesial body doesn’t make room for openly LGBT individuals, other than to say you’re welcome but we won’t treat you equally. Ultimately, it becomes a question of what is love about and what is inclusion about. It breaks my heart,” Collison has stated.

Obviously, he considers his heart more important than God’s word. The ECC should be commended for their stance on being faithful to God’s idea of marriage and for following the Biblical directives for how to handle excommunication as expressed by the Lord Jesus in Matthew 18:15-17 and Paul’s confirmation of that in 1 Corinthians 5:9-13 which reads as follows:

I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

  1. Brother, this is an unstoppable movement that will continue to divide until only a remnant remains. Tomorrow, here in NYC, millions will gather for homosexual pride, for sure ‘churches’ are marching alongside. 😖
    Press on with the truth.
