Time and again in God’s word, the truth is laid bare concerning the ultimate spiritual state of those who genuinely love God and the things of God in contrast to those who consciously or subconsciously hate him and anything that resembles him. Although we can come up with an endless variety of ways to label people or place them into neatly defined categories, as far as God is concerned there are only two kinds of people walking the Earth. Those two categories alone are the basis for how he will handle us when judgment day arrives. We are either for God or against God.
David in Psalm 34:21-22 lays out the basic nature and outcome for each type of person when he says the following:
Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.
Those who reject God, refusing to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, are considered wicked by God–whether or not they’re “nice people” by human standards. Rejecting Jesus is the equivalent of saying yes to evil and hating whatever is righteous, no matter how nice a person may appear. To choose evil over God is to have (knowingly or unknowingly) a death wish since evil will bring about a wicked person’s destruction. God considers them desolate, or guilty, since they hate the righteous and anything representing his righteousness.
People who surrender in repentance by faith alone through grace alone to the Lord Jesus Christ will be redeemed. None of us who do this will ever be considered desolate, or guilty, in his eyes because our redemption is forever in his power. Our afflictions may be many to try to separate us from him, but Jehovah will deliver us out of them all (Psalm 34:19). We have an eternal guarantee that guarantees us life even beyond this life.
As the last of these last days continue to unfold and the days become more evil, it is becoming clearer just how different the two types of people mentioned above really are. God-haters who were once considered nice and mild-mannered are now openly blaspheming God. They have no qualms about attacking his people with deceitful labels like “sexist”, “racist”, “homophobic”, “Islamophobic”, or “haters.”
Some of them even promote violence when we refuse to cave to their ungodly sexual habits and lusts, false religions and beliefs, attempts to redefine words like marriage or gender, pressure to embrace godless geopolitical principles like socialism or fascism based on atheism, or other doctrines of devils they espouse. Knowing their ultimate death wish and guaranteed desolation should give us the resolve expressed in Psalm 1, that we are blessed when we walk not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful since our delight is in the law of Jehovah.
