Vegan animal activists from a group in Australia named Anonymous for the Voiceless in recent months have been going to popular grocery stores in Australia to place stickers on meat products in an attempt to shame meat-eaters. The creator of the stickers, a guy named Kaj McBeth, denies being the one who illegally put the stickers on the meat products but freely gives them to whoever requests them. However, he considers people eating meat as a greater risk than illegally placing his stickers on the products.
The stickers have such slogans as “How can you be an animal lover and eat dead animals” and “Meat consumption causes heart disease.” The stores that were targeted called the police to report the incidents but thus far no official suspects have been identified and no arrests made.
This type of activism has its foundation in the socialist mindset of desiring to control every single aspect of individuals’ lives by force. Some of the vegan animal rights activism can be traced back to the novel “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair, a socialist author who used the novel to highlight what he thought were the injustices of the Chicago meat industry at the turn of the 20th century. Since he wrote it in 1906, socialists have used it as their clarion call for veganism and animal rights.
Nevertheless, food activism has been around for centuries. The apostle Paul mentioned such arguments in his writings. For example, in Romans 14:1-4 he warned against disputes over what foods to eat when he said:
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
Additionally, Paul in 1 Timothy 4:3-5 said the Holy Spirit warned him that among the false doctrines of the last days would be the “commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” As the socialist food controllers gain steam in these last days, it will be up to faithful Christians to remind ourselves of Paul’s warnings to be aware of the real spirit behind this movement and avoid it.
