Even the city of wicked, mighty men can fall by God’s wisdom

Humans who are adamant and unrelenting in their wickedness are often prone to build cities to shore up and expand their evil concepts. Those cities are not only manifested physically in stone, brick and mortar, or steel. They can be cities of deceptions and error, oppression and suppression of what’s right and just, and cities of fear and hatred.

To the naked eye, the walls of such cities seem impenetrable and insurmountable. However, any and all cities conjured up by evil, fallible humans are bound to have weaknesses. Proverbs 21:22 gives us this basic principle on how any city of wicked and mighty mortals can meet their end:

A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

The wicked, mighty humans who look down their noses from their lofty positions with contempt at those they deem beneath them often become so complacent they are caught off guard when the battle heats up because of someone exercising godly wisdom. When a godly person considers that they have a relationship with the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient God of the universe, they can look beyond themselves for an abundance of trustworthy counsel. Their humility, unselfishness, earnestness, patience, purity, steadfastness, and devotion all work together to help them hear what the Lord has to say on how and when to go on the offense against an enemy.

The weapons of our warfare are truly mighty through God to the pulling down of any stronghold the enemy can erect. James 1:5 tells us Jehovah is always eager to liberally give us wisdom if we lack it. We can then use that wisdom to examine and probe all necessary aspects of how the wicked have built up their city in order to climb those walls to expose their weaknesses and tear them down along with the confidence of the wicked. It doesn’t matter if the walls are physical, spiritual, or conceptual, God’s wisdom can take them all down if we lean not to our own understanding. I pray that all saints will exercise Proverbs 21:22 that the Lord may continue to execute victory over lost souls and send evil spiritual forces fleeing.
