Two African shamans claim they help African pastors with signs & wonders

As Christianity has reignited across the African continent by leaps and bounds in recent decades, the “wheat” of God’s crop is growing in the midst of the “tares” planted by Satan in very disturbing ways. Our Lord Jesus was never one to make any of his statements lightly. There was a reason he and the apostles warned us about trying to approach God based on the traditions of men (Mark 7:6-8; Colossians 2:8; 1 Peter 1:18). Another warning they gave us was to avoid being duped by lying signs and wonders (Mark 13:22; Acts 8:9-11; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-9; Revelation 13:14; 16:14).

Sadly, as in so many other places around the world, in many instances Africans have become “a wicked and adulterous generation [that] seeketh after a sign” (Matthew 16:4). They are mixing traditional shamanism (African voodoo/spiritualism) with imitation Christianity in order to attain the status promised under the prosperity gospel. In the past two days, Ghanaian witch doctor Nana Kwaku Bonsam and Nigerian witch doctor Onyeka Nwelue have come forward to claim they are the real spiritual force behind many prophets and pastors all over Africa who want to see their churches prosper.

Bonsam boasts that 1700 prophets have come to him for help. He charges each of the prophets $5,000US for taking part in rituals where they sacrifice different types of animals in different ways and pour the animals’ blood on the physical image of Bonsam’s god, a demon he calls Kofi-Kofi. Some of them also take ritual baths. He then bestows upon them his powers to start prominent churches, perform miracles, and see into the future or the past. Bonsam says, “It helps their churches get more members who always want to see signs and wonders.” In reality, it just leads more gullible people into deeper spiritual bondage.

Nigeria’s Onyeka Nwelue claims pastors run to him after church. The pastors and prophets who are his clients are taken to his shrine in the evenings after church services to perform occultic rituals. Most of the rituals involve an animal sacrifice so they can receive “miracle powers.”

Both men claim they are speaking out now because these pastors and prophets shame them and speak against them in public while they seek their help in secret. So caught up in their spiritual wickedness and adultery to glorify themselves, these religious leaders have ignored the fact that although Satan can perform signs and wonders as Jannes and Jambres did when they withstood Moses in Egypt, God proved then and still proves now that his power far surpasses all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Ephesians 5:11
