The Palestinian-backed BDS movement to encourage divestment from Israel was dealt another blow Sunday, June 5, when New York Governor Andrew Cuomo handed down an executive order for all state agencies to avoid doing business with anyone boycotting Israel. Cuomo in his order stressed that while he hopes Israelis and Palestinians will work out their differences to exist side by side, New York would “not stand for the politics of discrimination in any form, and we will continue to demonstrate our unwavering support for the people of Israel in the fight for freedom, liberty and democracy… I’m proud to sign this nation’s leading executive order, which will help protect Israel from the threat of divestment.”
Cuomo also rightfully referred to BDS as hateful and intolerant. This is the first time I actually agree with him on something, given his liberal bent. So kudos to Governor Cuomo for doing the right thing by Israel.
