Tennessee sheriff is being sued for “He is risen” Facebook post

An anonymous woman in Bradley County, Tennessee (where Cleveland, Tennessee is located) has teamed up with American Atheists to sue the Bradley County sheriff in court papers filed Monday, May 9. On Easter, Sheriff Eric Watson posted “He is risen” alongside a Bible quote on the official Facebook page for the sheriff’s office. The woman claims he also censored posts that were critical of the pro-Jesus post.

In addition to monetary damages, American Atheists and the female citizen want the US District Court for East Tennessee to order Sheriff Watson and his staff to cease from posting any Christian messages on any official social media of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office and to stop censoring anti-Christian or other critical comments. The woman says she has remained anonymous to protect herself from any reprisals.
