Utah governor signs two laws labeling porn as a public health hazard

Fourteen percent of pastors and 21 percent of youth pastors view pornography, according to a study released in January by the Barna Group. This most likely explains why we see so many of them in the news committing sex crimes. Porn is known to alter brain functions, negatively affects committed and familial relationships and the emotions, and influences all kinds of sex-related criminal behaviors. So Utah’s governor has decided to do something about it.

Governor Gary R. Herbert signed two laws–one of them “to raise awareness and education” by “creating a plan to protect children and families” from pornography’s harmfulness and the other to require computer experts to report to authorities any child pornography they may encounter while carrying out their duties. Sixty-seven percent of young men and 49 percent of young women think there’s nothing wrong with viewing porn. The state of Utah has one of the highest consumption rates for viewing it. Hopefully, the governor’s bold step will help remedy that for the sake of families and communities in that state and to set an example for other states.
