Jesus once said, quoting Psalm 8:2, that out of the mouth of babes God has perfected praise. Seven-year-old Sydney Hopson of Conway, Arkansas, is living proof of that scripture. When Sydney was 5, her grandmother gave her 26 Bible verses to choose from for her to memorize one of them from the King James Version. Sometime later, as her grandmother walked her to school, she asked Sydney to recite the verse. Sydney didn’t answer her right away so her grandmother repeated the question. She had hesitated because she didn’t know which verse her grandmother wanted to hear since she memorized all 26. Her skeptical grandmother in unbelief asked Sydney to prove she knew all 26 and she got the shock of her life when Sydney met the challenge word-for-word.
Since then Sydney has been kept busy traveling to different places all over Arkansas, including youth conferences, churches, and radio shows, to share her gifts of reciting the Bible, singing, and playing piano. She also recently won a talent show for her skills. They call her the ABC girl because as she goes through the alphabet, she can actually recite a corresponding Bible verse for each letter. Not only that, but she can recite Psalm 23, the Lord’s Prayer, various whole chapters of the Bible, and any passage of scripture she is assigned to learn. But her favorite is Isaiah 40:31–“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Her pastor calls her “a unique child” and considers her a blessing who has “a gift from God” and uses her gifts to encourage as well as inspire others from children to adults. To find out more about how God uses and blesses Sydney, consult the source article below.
