Iran releases pastor Saeed Abedini and other American prisoners

Saeed Abedini and his familyAfter years of prayers from Christians around the world and diplomatic efforts to free his release, Charisma News reported several minutes ago that American pastor Saeed Abedini was released along with three other Americans from an Iranian prison where he had been held since 2012. Among the other Americans released was journalist Jason Rezaian.

Pastor Abedini went to Iran to start an orphanage when he was arrested and falsely accused of conspiring against Iran’s government and also for converting from Islam to Christianity. His conversion happened many years ago, so the charges were trumped up. But thank God he and the others have been freed, and our prayers have finally been answered.

Several weeks ago, his wife here in the States backed away from publicly supporting him, stating that he was an abusive husband. This raised questions with some as to her timing after her tireless effort with Christian aid and legal aid groups to get her husband out of prison. I, for one, thought she possibly may have said it to meet some demand from Iran for the sake of her husband’s release. Nevertheless, I hope he will be brought back to the states as soon as possible to mend from his physical and mental wounds and be reunited with his wife and two children.
