Pastors Mark Coffey and Kalvin Kress on Friday, November 6, decided to do what they’ve done for the past eight years–trim palm trees outside their church, Community Life Center in Port Charlotte, Florida. They do it to keep the tree branches clear of the power lines and save money by doing it themselves. After getting a hydraulic crane (cherry picker), they got in the bucket and proceeded to raise it high enough to reach the branches.
At some point during the trimming process, the bucket they were in touched a live wire, electrocuting the pastors with enough electricity to kill them. Coffey said he felt his left side go numb and couldn’t move his extremities. The current also set Kress’s clothes on fire. Additionally, the electricity was so powerful, it blew the nearby transformer and knocked out power, which ultimately ended up saving them from further shocks.
The men should have died and thought they were going to, but they experienced a miracle and their lives were spared. Both of them have already been released from the hospital.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Psalm 91
