City pressured to change law after Bible study fined

The San Juan Capistrano Planning Commission in California is considering changes in their ordinances after fining a couple for hosting Bible studies in their home twice a week.  The Fromms were fined $500 for having a Bible study in their home. After the Fromms were fined for having 50 people or more in their home, the story went all over the Internet and city officials at San Juan Capistrano received emails from all over the world complaining of the fines.

City officials admitted that the ordinance was outdated. The planning commissioners said finding the right words to replace the old ordinance won’t be easy, but will have to avoid singling out non-profits, religious groups, and fraternal organizations. Meetings to begin the change are scheduled for January 2012.
