Facebook, censorship, and trolls

CNN just aired what I would call a “fluff” piece this morning on American Morning about how Internet sites, especially news sites, are combating web trolls. Trolls are those who leave “inflammatory” comments and try to bait other commenters into giving heated or emotional responses.

The piece seems to have been done in response to the findings of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) that Christian conservative comments are being censored by social sites like Facebook. Twitter was the only site that didn’t censor those comments. The report on CNN claimed that websites are finding it necessary to have Facebook and others “clean up” or delete comments that promote “hate speech.”

One gentleman who hired people to clean up such comments warned them that they were about to see the “underbelly” of the human soul. Another gentleman said that he had seen the most vile, hateful, racist comments and such measures to go through to clean up comments or to use Facebook and others to do so had benefits such as making sure a person is real (i.e. no anonymity) and to make people feel comfortable reading articles and comments to increase traffic on the websites.

Yes there are plenty of racist comments on news and other sites, but these measures are just an excuse to lump together any comments that are not in line with “progressive, liberal” views. So you will witness how any speech that criticizes President Obama’s policies as socialist gets close scrutiny. Any speech critical of Planned Parenthood’s policies of genocide for minorities and population control will get close scrutiny. Any speech calling homosexuality a sin will get closer scrutiny. And all speech that prefers the progressive, liberal views will be preferred. Christian conservative speech is being equated with racism and hate speech.

Welcome, citizens, to our new Orwellian society. Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” has arrived.

…this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: 1Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:  Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.  Isaiah 30:9-11
