Heat from the sun flares up

After a longer period than usual of the sun burning at a minimal rate, scientists are now reporting that sunspots have returned with a vengeance. Richard Fisher, who heads NASA’s Heliophysics Division in DC, has shown that solar flares have returned to the sun after a long three-year hiatus.

Recordings of the sun’s activity by satellites on February 15th, March 7th, and March 9th showed solar flares had reappeared and they are in the most powerful class of x-rays.  Scientists have kept records of the sun’s cycles since the mid-1700s and they now believe this recent flare-up marks the beginning of the 24th cycle since that time.  They believe this new cycle is off to a rather slow start, but the intensity of the class of these x-rays may make up for that slow start.

Jesus told the generation of his day that they were evil and wicked for seeking after signs from him in the heavens [Matt. 12:39, Mark 8:12, Luke 11:29].  But in their case, they were testing him out of unbelief for him to give them a sign that fit in their restrictive parameters.  Nevertheless, for the generation of believers that would be in existence before his return, Christ told us to keep an eye on the signs of the times and the sun will play a big part in those signs.  These cycles of increase and decrease in solar flares proves that God has the power to turn the sun up or turn it down according to how he sees fit.

Not only will we witness signs in the sun before his coming, but after the rapture during the great tribulation the sun will both be darkened and intensified as punishment on unbelievers.

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. [Luke 21]

12And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise. [Revelation 8]

8And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. 9And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. [Revelation 16]
